The magic of Kiwis
Kiwis are pack with essential micronutrients such as vitamin K, vitamin E, folate and potassium. I absolutely love the flavour and texture of this amazing fruit. But the two most extraordinary properties of Kiwis are:
1. They contain more vitamin C than oranges. A medium-sized kiwi contains 64mg of vitamin C. This means that only one kiwi has more than 140% of the RDI of vitamin C. RDI (Recommended Dietary Intake)
2. Kiwi fruits have studied for their high fibre content. They contain soluble and insoluble fibre which promotes lubrication needed to pass a healthy bowel movement. In other words, Say GOODBYE to constipation!
However, it is important to note that the therapeutic dosage of kiwis used in most studies is 2 kiwis per day. They can be consumed together or at different meals. BUT, two kiwis per day are required to see an improvement in constipation symptoms.
Other amazing protective properties include:
· Blood pressure reduction in hypertensive patients
· Reduce blood clotting. Reduction of stroke risk.
· Protects against macular degeneration. This is due to their high levels of zeaxanthin and lutein (Two important carotenoids for the eyes)
· Reduce the risk of colon cancer
So, if you are not already consuming this amazing food, it may be a good idea to get a few next times you go to do your groceries.
