Cold Showers in the morning

Cold showers are something that I started incorporating into my morning routine during the lockdown. I start with hot water for a couple of minutes. Then I turn the tap completely to cold while I try to relax all my muscles (I need to be concentrated to do this).

At the same time, I try to breathe deeply. I try to stay under the cold water for at least 90 seconds.

Why?

Because when the cold water hits the limbs it constricts the diameter of the blood vessels, allowing blood to reach deeper tissues. Focusing on my breathing I imagine the oxygen reaching every single cell of my body.

What else can you expect from cold showers?

A better immune system, basically meaning that the chances of getting sick are lower. Imagine being able to skip a cold or the flu just by having a cold shower every morning.

Honestly, I can’t remember the last time I was sick.

But the benefits don’t stop there…

  • Improve pain sensation in arthritis patients.

  • Better sleep. It can help regulate circadian rhythm

  • Boost fat burning. Your body will try to maintain body temperature in an optimal range by burning more calories.

I UNDERSTAND…It can seem like a torture routine at the beginning, but after almost one year of doing this, I can’t think of a better way to start my day.
